It’s 20 years since I last took part in formal educational training. Between 1994-96 I enrolled in the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Certificate and Advanced Certificate in Marketing courses when I lived in London. Or Marketing 101 and 102, as I called them.

20 years is a long time. 1996 was also the first year I encountered the internet. Back then, my first home page was just a page of links elsewhere…

When I left full-time work last year to go freelance the first thing I did was begin studying marketing again.

I started with books. Michael E Gerber’s The E Myth Revisited, Jim Collins’ Good to Great, Chip and Dan Heath’s Made to Stick and Robert Cialdini’s Influence, the Psychology of Persuasion all reconnected me with the ideas behind modern marketing.

But the most influential resource I have found, over the past 9 months, has been Sean D’Souza’s The Brain Audit. In a simple 200-page book, Sean distills a method of marketing that seems so simple, you wonder why you didn’t think of it yourself.

You can find Sean’s website at Psychotactics.com. It’s a treasure trove of marketing insight. Most importantly, Sean doesn’t just tell you why you should do something – he shows you how to do it.

Last month, he announced he was giving away his companion home-study course to the Brain Audit – The Brain Alchemy Masterclass. This course originally retailed in excess of US$2,500. Now, for a limited time, he’s giving it away for free.

If you want a taste of how effective Sean’s marketing ideas are, especially for small businesses, you can access his free course giveaway here. I don’t know how long this offer will last so, even if you’re mildly curious, take a look today.

I don’t get anything out of you looking, or taking the course. I just recommend it. Especially if you are interested in how to market a small business.
